Check the coolant level in the radiator header tank. There may well be an airlock.
Make sure the heater is on full. That's where airlocks usually happen. Having the heater on will help to shift it.
With the heater on & showing the Red ( Heat logo ) does the heater give out "Hot>>Cold>>Hot>>Cold? if so, air in the System, is the Electric fan working? this can be checked by leaving the car running, you should hear the fan coming in.
I'm not convinced that the fan would be in use on a motorway - enough ram air to cool the engine.
Worth checking the thermostat.
Check the thermostat is functioning, it has to open when the engine reaches the working temperature, if it doesn't open fully, you're not getting sufficient coolant circulating in the block.
Further to my last post - how do you know it's overheating? If it's boiling, fine, it is overheating. If the temperature gauge says so the sender screwed into the thermostat housing could be faulty.
