Car Tax (Via Direct Debit) Changes
7 Answers
I have a question that I'm hoping someone here can answer.
My Dad has just retired and treated himself to a new car. He is currently paying tax on his old car via direct debit, is it somehow possible to change the direct debit to pay the tax on the new car. And if so, how? What stages do we have to go through to change it from one car to the other.
Many thanks in advance!

In October I scrapped my car and purchased another one. I was paying by direct debit on the scrapped one and the payment was due in the 1 st of the month. I scrapped it on 30/10/2015 and the new car was taxed until 31/10/2015. My payment for the scrapped car was taken from my bank on 01/11/15 and I used the online system to purchase new tax for the new car. Within 10 days my payment for the scrapped car was returned to my bank as the correct documentation was received by the DVLA. Just get your dad to buy new tax and the DVLA will sort the old one if they receive the correct documents.
