The situation with regard to speed cameras is chaotic and the present policy is not working. Locals know where all the cameras are and just slow down briefly as they pass them while strangers slam on their brakes when they spot them and we all slow down below the posted limit to be sure of not being caught.
I think that at known black spots the warning signs should continue and the cameras should be painted yellow as now. I think that other cameras (the majority) should be hidden/disguised/moved. At the same time we should be told that the cameras will not fire unless a vehicle is doing more than the posted limit+10%+2mph and if it does the driver will not be prosecuted. Of course the limit is still the limit and the police should still initiate prosecution if they see a driver break it in certain conditions or circumstances.
I believe the vast majority of us would respect the above and our roads would be safer.
