Scrap Dangerous Motorway Hard Shoulder Plans, Mps Warn
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/uk -366641 16
I am not sure if this has been debated yesterday. I heard about it on my personal radio when I was on the train.
If the MP's manage to put the kibosh on this, then they will have done something worthwhile this week. Bloody madness !

As a retired fireman who had the M4 on his station's ground and attended numerous motorway accidents, I would say this is madness. We often had cause to use the hard shoulder to gain access to the incident/s. I dread to think what access Fire Brigades would have if this were brought into force ! FBG40

I saw the article yesterday. Don't think it's been debated here yet. I'm most unkeen on using hard shoulder as a normal lane in peak times. The idea of having stretches permanently bereft of a hard shoulder just to save money, sounds ridiculous. Where are folk to stop in emergencies ? How do emergency vehicles get by ? Whatever happened to "safety first" or "if even only one life gets saved ..." ? Who are these folk that make such suggestions and how how are they let into a position to make them ?
The most "Dangerous lane on the Motorway" more accidents / fatalities are on the hard should, even persons getting drawn out of their cars by by opening them by passing HGVs & cars not pulling over far enough from the inside lane maker Line, persons getting out of the drivers door without checking their mirrors, Resulting in the drivers door been ripped off, I have seen cars very close to the line, why they do not pull well over beats me, a bit of common sense could have saved some peoples lives as I know from personal experience.
There are stretches of the M25 where the hiard shoulder no longer exists, having been permanently converted to a running lane. I have been on this stretch when there has been an accident. Absolutely no chance of the emergency services reaching the scene promptly. It is only a matter of time until a serious incident occurs and the services are unable to get to the scene quickly enough.
Absolute madness. The lunatics really have taken over.

On the M25 stretches there are "Emergency pull off areas" (i.e. lay-bys) about every half mile or so. Fine if you conveniently break down adjacent to one of them. Not too much fun if you've just passed one. I have seen broken down vehicles who have not been so fortunate anad the situation they find themselves in (pulled up in effectively a running lane) is horrendous.
