I have just been done for speeding, 38mph in a 30mph zone. Been offered a speed awareness course, if I take it do I still get points on my licence and also have to pay a fine? Also do I need to inform my insurance company? Many thanks.

You don't get points. You don't get a fine. But you do have to pay for the course. Seem to remember it was about ninety quid. Been there done that. I was doing 37 in a 30.
And no, I didn't inform insurance company.
I think some want to be informed, others not. I suspect most don't bother ! In which case beware if you have to make a claim.
no fine no points, pay for the course do not tell Insurance company.
Beware inaccurate advice:
Julie Robertson, the head of the driving offences team at law firm Simpson Millar, says: “There is no question that having taken part in a speeding course can, and often will, inflate a person’s insurance premium - sometimes quite substantially.
“Several of my clients have reported significant rises in their insurance premiums after they attended a speeding course, and subsequently informed their insurer. Clearly, it is interpreted as an element of enhanced risk despite the fact that it might actually be the opposite.”
Experts say that premiums can rise by between 10% and 30%, but it depends on your insurer because not all ask drivers to declare a course.

^^ Yes at one time you could have 3 points for speeding and it did not affect your insurance premium. Now it does.
As has been said, beware of the "blanket" advice regarding insurance.

Read your policy document to determine whether you have to inform your insurers and (just as important) whether you have to inform them immediately or wait until renewal. The Admiral Group certainly asks for details of Speed Awareness Courses
You need to inform your insurers ONLY if they ask you about a speed awareness course, if they don't, you don't need to mention it.
