Damage To Car Tyre During Stay At French Holiday Site
3 Answers
In August we stayed at a Yelloh! camp site in Normandy booked through UK company Canvas holidays. The designated parking area beside our caravan had a dangerous raised manhole protruding several inches above the ground (obscured by a hedge when reversing in) and our rear car tyre and alloy were badly damaged driving over it. I immediately reported it to Yelloh! reception, emailed Canvas back in the UK with photos and the maintenance man for Canvas came to look, agreed that the manhole was dangerous and unacceptable and provided translation services so we could liaise with a tyre repair company. The upshot was that the tyre was dangerous/beyond repair and we also had to replace the other rear tyre to balance out the new one, so were left with an unexpected £550 bill and lost a day of our holiday (Audi Q5 tyre, so not readily available and had to hang about the garage for 3hrs until it was delivered). When we got back to the UK I raised the matter with Canvas but they say it is not their responsibility as they rent the pitch from Yelloh! They said they would pass on my claim to Yelloh! but have emailed this morning to say that Yelloh! say they are not liable either (and Canvas are willing to give me a £100 voucher off a future booking as a 'goodwill gesture') I am livid as someone must be liable. I have very clear photos showing the manhole which is without doubt dangerous. Canvas think the fact that they have never previously had any complaints exonerates them in some way. I could do with some advice please before I go down the Facebook/Twitter/Travel supplement complaint section please.
