I have Windows Xp which will be changed shortly as it is out of date but meantime I need the best FREE antivirus available Can anyone help please?

We're constantly being asked for recommendations for free antivirus software. The most popular among ABers (including me) appears to be Avast:

BTW, upgrading to Windows 7 needn't cost you an arm and a leg. You can buy a Windows 7 desktop PC (which is perfectly adequate for web-browsing, video streaming, image editing, word processing, DTP, etc) for just £59 here:

In addition, set flash to "ask to activate" or your browsers own setting (that's for firefox). Scan with free malwarebytes once a week and you are good to go.

Thanks Buenchico Presumably the £59 replaces my bigblackbox What snags are there ? Is it just a matter of removing all the wires from my blackbox and inputting them into the new big blackbox ? sorry I am a non techie!!!!
