There are a lot of much cheaper car hire places, if he gets home on public transport and looks around for a local hire company.

The company I occasionally contract for got me a hire car (when my own was off the road) in October. 6 days hire, from Tuesday to Monday cost a total of £82. (A Ford Fiesta with only about 3000 miles on the clock).
It was booked through http:// www.ren talcars .com
The name of the hire company, as shown on the booking, was Firefly but the sign above the door at the rental place said Hertz.
