My friend's son applied for a job as a Traffic Warden. On the application form it asks if you have a driving licence. Yes my friend's son has an full AUTOMATIC driving licence. This was never bought up in the interview.
Got the job and on the first day he was sacked as he was asked to move a manual car and he explained his licence does not allow him to do this.
Promptly sacked.
Not once was it explained in his duties, he would be moving cars.

Has my friend's son got any comebacks??

Depends on how the job description is worded. Would be surprised if thir legal people have it wrong.
Worth checking though.
As he has not been in the job for 2 years he can be dismissed without reason at any time.
As he has not worked for the company for two years I doubt he would be entitled to anything!

He was rather foolish not telling a prospective employer of the limitations of his licence though.
Meant to add , No he has no 'comeback' at all!
Since when do Traffic Wardens move cars? Why would they need too? He would not be insured to move someones car without permission even if he had a full driving licence. Just asking...
Traffic wardens don't exist any more

so I assume that you're referring to the role of a 'civil enforcement officer' (or something similar).

However, as Eddie says, anyone can be dismissed from their post for almost any reason at all (or for no reason whatsoever) within their first two years in the post. The only exceptions are when the reason for dismissal fall foul of equality legislation. (e.g. the 'two year rule' doesn't apply if an employee finds out that they're homosexual or a Muslim, and then dismisses them solely because of that reason).

I have seen the advert and it makes no mention of moving cars. The Matter of him having a driving licence whether normal or automatic never arose. Even during his training, moving cars did not come up.

Yes it is civil enforcement officer.
Sorry, but it makes no difference. Under 2 years service and you can be sacked instantly without even being given a reason
(unless it is discrimination) , not fair I know, but that's how it is!
RATTER //He was rather foolish not telling a prospective employer of the limitations of his licence though.\\

Agreed. Even more foolish is the person who gave him the job and did not check his licence. He/she has caused a financial loss to the company by recruiting and training a person unsuitable for the job.

The application form just said "do you have a valid licence?" The son said yes!
And that was the end of that. It was never mentioned again.

And I have since found out, it was not for moving cars, they'd only given him his own personal car!!!
Fair enough Sharon. Rotten luck for your friend's son. I take it nobody asked to see his licence then to check it. Bit naughty of them.
