Does Anyone Know If Fish And Chips Shops Use Vegetable Oil Containing Rapeseed

I have an allery to rapeseed oil, and I am checking everything now before I buy as I have found it in so many foods you dont think of. I know a lot of fish and chip shops use vegetable oil and most vegetable oils contain rapeseed, at home I use sunflower oil which I am ok with.

I don think 'all' fish and chip shops use the same but each should display what they do use in the shop or you could contact them in advance.

I can't really see how a general answer here will help much. You're going to have to ask your local chippies what they use, as each shop will have its own policy.

For example, if you look at the website of a specialist wholesaler to the trade you'll see that their range of liquid oils does include rapeseed oil but there's also groundnut oil and other specialist products available:

Many chippies though prefer to use block oils and, once again, there are a wide range of products for them to choose from:

So the only possible answer to your question would seem to be the (rather unhelpful) statement that "Some do and some don't"

The new regulations specify that food sales outlets must tell customers who ask about potential allergens in the food they sell. They must be able to tell you - it's the law. But there's no law to say what fat they must use. In my opinion, however, the finest F&C are cooked in dripping. But you may have to go to Yorkshire for such delights.
