I recently purchased a Vauxhall Viva supplied without a spare tyre just a compressor and a can of foam, can this tyre inflator be used on its own purely to top up my tyres or can it only be used to repair punctured tyres using the foam?

Thanks to all in anticipation

The pump, if it's like my Volvo one, is just a pump, so can be used on its own. Be aware that if you use the foam it will make your tyre irrepairable and may not work anyway. No use at all for tyrewall punctures or large holes. Go to a scrapyard and buy yourself a real spare.

Vauxhall Viva - really ?
Baz, do keep up,
The Vauxhall Viva features a name that's a blast from the British firm's past, but it's a far cry from the saloon that pounded UK streets in the 1960s and 1970s. The latest Viva is a budget five-door that sits somewhere between a city car and supermini in terms of size, while its budget price tag means it slots in below the popular Corsa and Adam superminis.

Well , I'll go to the foot of our stairs .

;o)
I am not sure . . but you might only be able to use some of these kits once. If you want to keep your tyres at the right pressure why not invest in a purpose built product and keep the one in the boot for when you actually need it.
Here are just a few examples of tyre inflators / gauges - including manual and those that plug into the car power socket.

I had a Viva as a courtesy car recently. Not a bad little car, but I doubt there is room for a spare wheel, even a spacesaver. The hatchback lifting shell was the depth of my letterbox.
Shelf, not shell
Bazile, lol lol good one thou knows lol
My advice is to get a space-saver spare wheel without delay. These kits that cars supplied with these days are next to useless. They won't help in any side wall damage and they begger up any tyre, forcing you to buy a new one, when perhaps a simple puncture would work.
Mikey, with respect, I would go for a proper wheel at least you can get them repaired to re-use.
TWR....yes a proper sized wheel, if there is room. I am now on my third Fiesta in 6 years, and the last two have been brand-new, but without a spare wheel. So, I just keep transferring my original spare into each new car as it comes.

I space saver is perfectly safe, as long as its used for the purpose to which it is made.....ie, to get you home and have the puncture repaired.

Cars are not being supplied with a proper spare anymore purely for cost reasons.

There plenty of space-savers on sale, for not very much money.
This car I have now Mikey came with a stupid Get You Home Tyre, I looked up on ebay there was one in Sheffield, £50 with del & plenty of thread, I cleaned it up & now in the boot, the car does have a deep well for the spare, the stupid wheel went to the Recycling Skip, I went with a mate that was buying a New 2nd hand car, I advised him, if there was a deal it would not be completed until a proper alloy was in place & the boot could take it, the deal was done.

I have checked with the Vauxhall garage that supplied My Viva and they state that this compressor can be used without using the foam. I also took the opportunity to ask them about a spare wheel and was told that if I purchased one it would have to lie in the boot as there is no provision to stow one away. The boot is so miniscule that I will not be going down this route and as I have only ever had to purchase one new tyre in fifty years of motoring due a puncture this should not cause too much of a problem

Thanks to all who tried to help especially bhg481
