leaking roof

Any ideas how I can seal the roof of my convertible. The car, Peugeot 205, is wonderful but the roof has started to rot. Gaffer tape comes loose in the rain.

I tried everything I could think of but water is a ****** and got through anything. I think the only real solution is a new hood. Not as expensive as I had thought either.
