Hi depsix,

I have had my Scenic for 18 months and had no problems at all.

Good to hear alls well with yours! Am sure mine is the switch or relay but intermittent faults a pain to isolate.

For all the owners of Renaults with various faults, they aren't all bad; had mine 6 1/2 years 90000miles - its been faultless apart from this headlamp problem and normal consumables, do all my own servicing changing oil (turbo diesel) every 5000 miles.

Great cars with undeserved poor quality reputation in my eyes.

Is your car a current model Scenic? If so, these cars have an electronic system in them called a CANBUS. Basically this is a ring main in your car that has a common 12v going to everything, but then it is different, there is no wired link between items, such as the light switch, the switch is a device on the system that has a unique transponder which the CANBUS control recognises as the light switch, and so it is programmed to switch on the headlights and sends a signal to them to switch on, my guess is you have a problem with this system. Else it could be something comparatively low tech as a faulty bulb or the plug on the bulb.

Have changed the switch ( 82) which seems to sorted the problem, was in two minds if it could have been the relay (much cheaper). Figured relays either work or don't, Problem intermittent but had been getting more regular. Hopefully sorted now, thanks for replies.
