I don't understand what the 'other cap' that is not a fuel cap is for

Can't understand this. I've got a 2009 Smart & there's only one place to put the petrol. Just wonder as it's an older model this was a design problem that has now been changed?

Thanks for that. Surely if there was a need for such a cap it would be designed to prevent a fuel nozzle being inserted.
Bizarre. She is lucky to be alive and the whole fuel station could have gone up with a bang.
The report says and shows a picture, it's an air intake for the interior ventilation
Had a look on Google, seems several people have done the same thing, but spotted the petrol coming out of the car before any catastrophe.

That information and photo wasn't there when I first read the report, Fitzer.
What a stupid design.
Definitely not got that design on my 2009 model. The lady in question was very lucky
Doesn't sounds very smart.

Isn't there another one with 710 written on it ?

You referring to the oil cap, OG?
You know, you really shouldn't be able to put petrol anywhere other than the petrol tank.

This looks like a very bad design problem, and an accident waiting to happen.

An instant recall is urgently required.....after all, there can't be that many of these daft things on our roads, can there ?
I recently rented a car and got a Smart for Two. The petrol gauge is a horizontal bar graph low on the display - but a vertical bar graph is positioned near the right edge of the display and I have no idea what that is. Does anyone know ?
I assume she has filled this car up many times before on the correct side. The "other cap" is on the other side of the vehicle! PMSL!
TTT...can I sugest a visit to a urologist...you spend a lot of your time doing that.
Yes TTT from the number of times you claim you have p *** your self laughing need some of these.

The correct name is stress incontinence, not PMSL
I find it very strange that someone PMSL because someone almost burned to death.
+1 for what Tony said.
have a day off you lot, I just find it odd that she had filled up the car before in the correct orifice but suddenly I assume she thought that it had moved somehow to the opposite side!
Doesn't say anything in the link about her filling the car before.
so she'd just bought then? right oh!
It's not amusing. It could have been a complete catastrophe. Fortunately, no one got badly injured.
We've had our current car for almost 10 years and my wife had never put fuel in it.
