What Is Most Economical Car ?

i was looking at a 2L diesel vauxhall insignia 2017 eco flex...performance on the website said it done a combined 70mpg....the guy in the showroom told me that this was only government guidelines ( why lie ) he said in actual fact it would be closer to 55-60 combined .

what in your view is the best diesel car i can buy for milage ?

It's impossible to answer your question without knowing how you use your car - long trips/short trips, high annual mileage/low annual mileage etc. Diesels are only economical if you do more than about 10,000 miles a year and lots of short trips will clog up the particulate filter.

Surely if you are looking for a very economical car, you would look for something much smaller than an Insignia.

I would have thought something like a small hybrid.

Dont buy a diesel. A new tax on diesel cars comes in the year after next and the price of the fuel is through the roof. Repairs are expensive as parts are difficult to source.

Petrol cars are more economical now, and hybrid of course is worth investigating. But any small petrol car will do way more mpg than the 2l diesel.

We have a couple of Mercedes A180s at work. They have a 1.5 Diesel engine and we get over 60mpg (68 on a long run).

hybrid ? ok which ones are best ? i do 10k per year minimum, sometimes travelling long distance.
im single now so dont need a kia sportage 1.7 eco.
a small car will do me fine , so, stay with deisel or go with petrol ?
insignia has tax free for life btw !!! or will the government change that in time too ?
