Greetings and a Happy New Year to AB.

This probably won't help my cause but here goes....

We have been refused a [school] class trip on the grounds that the travel time is too long. On Google maps it showed as 35 minutes [I think, I only had a chance for a quick look], yet those that must be obeyed said it could be be at least 2 hours each way factoring in the traffic.

Question, is there anyway I can see how the traffic would be on a given day/time as a average?

I know that a journey to work takes around 3 times as long in the peak times (early morning/evening) compared to other times in the day. Does the suggested 2 hour figure include any pick ups? Does allowance also need to be made for parking and queueing at the destination
if they say "could be" they may be looking at something like a maximum rather than an average - maybe worried about late fees for returning buses and drivers?

I think Google maps work to average times; so does this

There may some long term roadworks that Google won't have allowed for.

We would be leaving school at around 9.30 and need to be back by 2.30pm... possibly 15 minutes later if needed.
We want to go from the IG10 area to SE10 8XJ... It looks more than doable to me. The show is only for 45 minutes and then we can turn round and head back :)

Ahhh when I said doable I hadn't considered road works...but then I don't drive lol.

Thank you all for you imput. It would be lovely to take them there [and the price was amazing] but we'll find something else x
On an ordinary day, I’d say it was doable. But then again, it took us (you know where I work), 40 mins just to get to Ilford on a Friday lunchtime.
You're very lucky to go on a trip anywhere these days without hitting at least one lot of roadworks.
If you use an Android phone to plan a route on Google maps and then tap on 'Steps & more' you'll see a bar chart which compares the current estimated driving time with that for the past hour and for each of the next four hours.
Getting from Loughton (or wherever) to the Royal Observatory means going through the Blackwall Tunnel, which (along with traffic in Greenwich in general) I'd certainly want to avoid at peak times. Traffic can flow freely but all too often it seems to slow to a crawl anywhere around there.
Is the Woolwich Ferry still suspended?
If so, the Blackwall tunnel has been dreadful, traffic wise.
