Why do some Mazda MPV vehicles have what looks like a mirror on the back facing inside the car and what is it for?

The mirrors attached to the rear window of big MPVs when adjusted correctly allows you to see the rear end of the car when parking.
In Japan, many vans (even quite small ones) have these mirrors fitted.
And the reason is that in Japan parking space is at a premium due to overcrowding etc... so the parking laws are REALLY strongly enforced but the parking bays are quite small. If you park in a marked parking bay with any part of your vehicle over the line (any line) your vehicle is immediately towed to the police pound and you have to pay to get it back again, the mirror is to make sure you can see the line at the back.
I sure you will find that that the one's with mirrors are "grey" imports.
