Kwik Fit

Kwik fit are running an add on the radio at the moment, they give you a number to text your reg number to them, then they will message you when your M.O.T is due, and make you an appointment. They say when your M.O.T is done you will drive away HAPPY. Your thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't go near them, unless they guaranteed that you will be happy when you drive away

I have Dyno Taped the dates of MOT renewal and RFL renewal behind my sun visor. If you use a MOT testing station regularly they text me in any case.My MOT Garage used to give out key fobs that buzzed a few weeks before the Test was due. No longer do that. I find KwikFit quite pricey. If you have a choice I would shop round.

do you not have a nice mechanic (local) trustworthy who would do the work for you. I'm for MOT in April so I'll make an appointment with my local mechanic

My garage pick up my vehicle, test it and return it home, at no extra cost to me.

Kwik Fit MoT testers have to test the car according to a set procedure. Any test centre will have to do the same. The only way that Kwik Fit can send you away happy is by charging you very little - less than the "from £27" that they currently advertise.

It is not unknown for some test centres to tell you that some part needs replacing when it doesn't.

Just paid £27 on line. Last week actually, very happy no problems with Kwik Fit. Only an idiot would pay more, had the last five MOTs at QF, no problems.

If you suspect a Test Station is doing what AOG suggests, always request the old parts back and the packaging for the new parts replaced.

If in doubt, report them - they'll take your certification away if you are caught.

I've only ever used Formula 1 Autocentre for MOT....and always seem to pay £25...and they e-mail a reminder when it's due.

Well I hope he is an accredited Dept of Transport MOT examiner/Tester with the thousands of pounds worth of testing equipment and not just a friendly young lad with a toolbox.

I usually remember when my MOT is due, but I've also set up a reminder with the gov.uk website, which emails me in advance when my MOT is due.

They look pretty similar and STILL carried out by accredited DVA examiners. NOT a young lad in a back street garage with a tool box as I have written.

Yes retrodop I know how they work so it won’t matter if JJ gets her local mechanic to look over the car? Like a lot of mechanics here they will probably take it to the mot for you

It certainly DOES matter where JJ takes her car to be tested. It would appear,in NI,you have to book your appointment about 4 weeks in advance and can't just rock up. It also complies with Construction and Use defect checks. It looks just as stringent as the Mainland MOT.

It’s actually more stringent than mainland and as I said she will probably arrange for her mechanic to take it for the MOT

Yes. Nice back pedal. You stated it didn't matter where JJ took her car as MOT's are different. They patently are not and a tester must be authorised.

It’s common practice here to get a mechanic to look over your car then take it for its mot!!
