As others have suggested, when you've got so little fuel in the tank, the 'distance to empty' (DTE) figure (as my car calls it) will change quite rapidly depending upon the driving conditions at any one time.
For example, when I set off to the shops today (about 10 miles away) my dashboard was showing the DTE as 98 miles as I left home and was driving locally 'around town'. Once I got out onto the A14 it rose quite quickly to 114 miles but, as soon as I got stuck in a bit of traffic it dropped equally quickly to around 100 miles again (although I'd done ten miles since it had read 98 miles).
I obviously need to refuel soon and, based upon past experience, 'DTE' will then show about 550 miles when I start off with a full tank. If I immediately drive out onto motorway-style roads (in free flowing traffic), that might rise to over 600 miles after I've only gone a short distance. However if, as soon as I leave the filling station, I join traffic crawling around town, it will drop to about 480 miles very quickly.
It's all perfectly normal and due to the onboard computer making estimates based upon your general driving style and the prevailing traffic conditions. If you've only done 300 miles in the car, it's still learning about the way you drive, so the figure you see will keep changing as the computer keeps reassessing how efficiently you're driving.
