How exactly do these calculate times? Example: 50 mile stretch of A1/A1(M) apparently takes an hour (using Autoroute). Even given a roadwork or two you average better than 50mph. What speeds should you enter for your roads - e.g. limited access, major, minor, to reflect actual speeds? What the hell's an "other limited access road"?

They are not very realistic. I checked one not long ago and it told me to drive 1 mile back down the road to get onto the main road. I would of lost 2 miles and been stuck in heavy traffic. The speed is not at all realistic because it said journey time to go 3 miles should be something like 6 minutes. Yes but I live in London and it takes 2 minutes to go though one set of traffic lights, it can take 20 minutes to do 3 miles if you use certain routes.

With Autoroute you can enter your own average speeds for different types of road and calculations will be based on that. An urban motorway with a speed limit of less than 70 could be an example of "other limited access road".
Maybe I'm getting old but averaging 50mph over any longish distance is good going. Arrive alive!
