How do I know if I've paid too much for a complete exhaust replacement on my VW Fox? I've tried searching for quotes online but each site seems to want to see vehicle, which is fair. When I tell people how much I paid, they all say "OOhh... that's a lot" - and it was! Thanks for your time guys and girls.

a complete exhaust replacement?
why did you need to replace the entire system? Considering that will include the catalytic converter, it will not be cheap. How much did you pay?

It was the original exhaust (2008) so garage advised replacing all four "bits" - (the back box had actually fallen off). I paid £340.00 - which is probably what the car is worth!
that does not sound too bad for a complete system. I had a quick look online, guessing your car was 2008 and came up with a similar figure.
Yep, sounds reasonable for a full system with labour.
considering the age of the car, it was probably good advice to replace the entire system. I had a situation a few years ago, when I replaced the back box on a fairly old Honda Accord. As I tightened the bolts on the flange connecting it to the mid-section, the flange on the mid-section snapped off. Replacing the mid-section was a two day nightmare - seized nuts, cracked brackets, etc.
