I was watching The Pale Horse this evening (Agatha Christie) and the main character Easterbrook was driving a beautiful drophead coupe. I am trying to identify the make and model. I think it had a sphinx emblem on the front of the bonnet but never got a good close up. That would indicate a Armstrong Siddley but the nearest model looks like a Hurricane. Not happy they are one of the same. Any offers. I will try to get a link. 3rd photograph down in background. Might be a Jaguar?

Not watched yet but your initial thoughts seem right, the Hurricane (which was based on the Lancaster saloon) was the drophead.

The number plate relates to a blue Lagonda DH if that's of any help.

Many thanks for your input mamyalynne. I tried 635 XUN on the Gov web site ( Check your car is taxed) and it has come back as a Blue Lagonda DH.

I was thinking that due to the year of manufacture they would be Tax exempt or have they rescinded that entitlement for classic or vintage
car owners?

Tax exempt over 40 years old.

Both cars were registered in 1954 and the first car IS taxed but the second one isn't. It might be the second one is outwith Great Britain.

Is it not the case that tax-exempt cars need to be taxed even if they are zero rate?

Nothing to do with the tv show, but a friend of mine used to own a 1933 Morris Major, as shown in the link. He got it for next to nothing as someone wanted off the premises. It had been stood in a garage for over 20 years. Towed it home; cleaned all the ignition in situ; poured half a gallon of petrol in the tank; poured some into the carb; hand cranked it a few turns; fired it up and hey presto! A nice running engine. He also had a MK1 Jag, licence number
999 ONE. Same type as Morse had. Was that a MK1? Anyway it was one of those. When he re-newed the tax on it, the DVLC, as it was then, for some reason recorded the registration as 9990 NE. It took him ages to sort that.

£45k5 for a Lagonda, ~£0 for a Morris Major. Might just be able to afford the second.

Ah, nice to have but nowhere to garage, and would get paranoid over rust, vandalism, and moron drivers crashing into them.
