doug: "Do you not do the same? " - of course I do, that's the point we all do, personal private transport is wasteful and so cheap that not only can even the poorest afford it they can afford to operate it at vastly below its potential capacity. Societally speaking it's an inefficient disaster.
TORATORATORA, perhaps you should flog all your modes of transport and look for car-sharing opportunities in your area?

Its not really made a dot of difference to me regarding my private trips. I drive for pleasure here and there, but not very far anyhow ( retired) Shopping no big deal either due to supermarket and small towns very near.

But for those who have to drive a distance to work it must be getting very worrying with everything else.
The only thing that will affect me is price rises in food due to increased transport costs.
So all in all it affects everyone sooner or later.
So how does one get the extra passengers to prove one is poor. We live in a rural area with low wages, with no public transport. When we were cash strapped and both worked we had to run two cars to survive. There were no extra passengers to take! Absolutely stupid statement Tora!! But I agree with Sunny Dave.
I suppose I should have walked or cycled between 12/15 miles per journeys winter and summer in all weathers to prove we were cash strapped!
