...........the Govt thinks that everyone is well off. Lots of phone-ins etc about how the Chancellors measures will affect everyone, but the govt can see that most people have all, or most of, mobile phone/i-Pad/computer/family car/large screen tv/cable or satellite subscription/donate regularly to charity/have a gymn or golf club membership/go on holiday. Why should the government have any concerns when all of that is relevant? They see all of that, so don't see any need to intervene in the exploitation being perpetrated by the energy companies. You're all well off, you see? If you want to see how much money the government thinks you need to live on, then look at the Jobseekers Allowance for a single person, which rises exponentially for couples with children.
If by Energy company's you mean the eon British gas , Scottish Power etc then there losing money...loads have had to drop out or gone bust so there not exploiting it. Its the gas producers like Russia whose exploiting if anyone is
Thanks for the replies folks. I still think the govt don't believe there is poverty anywhere in this country. I do believe they take a serious look at the things in my OP. Whether exponential, proportionate or exploitative.
You know the old slogan - We'll tax the rich?
Well, governments think that everyone is rich. Simples!
The government thinks the opposite. I'm sure there are teams of govt employees who analize these things, then report back. Unlike lots of people, who get their information via the media and social network, so it must be true.
What happens to all the information in the census? What happens to all the petitions that are handed in at various times? There are statisticians who's job it is to analize these things. And more besides, probably.
