Do think the Queen should have relinquished the crown to Charles maybe 10 or 20 years ago. Now he is suffering a double whammy within a day.

Losing his Mama and becoming King - all at the age of 73. I do think he is not strong enough for this change.


Who wants a new job at 73. He enjoyed his life in Cornwall living a good life with Camilla.

Do feel sorry for him.

I also think she clung on to her crown a tad too long, JJ. She ought to have abdicated when her mother died, imho. Yes, i know she promised to serve her country for the rest of her life, but she could have done that as Queen Mother.

I feel sorry for his loss. She may have been our Queen but she was his beloved mum.

He's waited all his life to take the throne and I'm sure he is happy to do so.

I'm not convinced that Charles will enjoy the same longevity his parents did, but long may he reign anyway.

Had his mother been ill in later life he would have become Prince Regent but not king. She would've had to abdicate in order for him to be king. She pledged to serve the country till death and that is what she did. Royals don't really retire.

Np, I don't think the queen should have relinquished her crown. She pledged to serve the nation and the commonwealth for the whole of her life, just as he has, and the way it's happened is the way it works.

The Queen was an absolute stickler for every aspect of protocol, and that would include remaining as monarch until her death.

She inherited the title knowing it was for life, and she saw it through, I doubt she ever considered anything else as an option.

Up to a point the now king should be greatfull because again, up to a point he's been able to enjoy a certain amount of freedom that the past queen has not.

No, I don't think the Queen should have relinquished her crown, she took on the job for life and good heavens, she stuck to that didn't she. I personally think he is happy to be King, even though he is grieving for his Mum. I think he will have a lot of support and of course Camilla is his biggest support of all.

No, I don't think she should have abdicated. She promised to serve for her lifetime, whether it was long or short and that's what she did. It's only been a relatively short time that she had to step back and let others help whuch was good practice for them.

The Queen had to do the same, take over as monarch whilst still grieving her father, thats how it works.

Anyway Charles doesn't have to take over, William is perfectly capable and old enough for the job, thought Charles would have handed it to him.

the last abdication didn't go well and is still regarded with horror by the family, so she would never have stepped down.

Darcey, no, she left them behind for weeks or months when she went on tour. I don't think anyone would do that these days.

I don't think she should have abdicated. She did a lifelong, amazing job, as she promised to... and thankfully, remained compos mentis to be able to.
Charles has always been prepared- good luck to him.
