Annoying Gear Instructions!
22 Answers
My Ford Ka insists on showing me which gear to be in, such as change up to 5th as I'm about to slow down for a bend - duh! As I've been driving for 55 years, I resent this! Can it be disabled?

You're not alone, JuniperEccle s! https://www. fordownerscl ub.com/forum s/topic/1197 24-65-ka-5th -gear-at-30m ph/ By coincidence, I've just purchased a car with a 6-speed gearbox and I'm learning to largely ignore its advice to move into 5th (or even 6th!) gear at 30 mph!

Khandro:
Having driven many, many automatics during my trade-plating days, I can say without any hesitation whatsoever that I'd never buy one! They're horrid!

I can just about cope with 6 gears but I was never too fond of driving trucks with a dozen or more!

Yes, my beloved old Saab 9-3 has gone to the big garage in the sky (otherwise known as the scrapyard a few miles down the road from me). It was running on 3 cylinders (although that was actually extremely hard to notice when driving it) and it would have cost £1500 to fix. So I spent that money on a Honda Accord instead. (I got £350 for the Saab at the scrapyard though, which I thought wasn't at all bad).

We have a Ford C Max and it does the same thing. At least it doesn't make a noise just a light on dashboard saying to change up or down. The salesman told us just to ignore it. The one that annoys us is the front and rear sensors which sometimes go off for no reason at all. To many buttons on cars these days, we even have one that will park the car for us but never use it. Tried it once but didn't like it. It did work though. Having been a HGV driver when I was younger I trust my own judgement more than some of these new fangled things.
