London Congestion Charge

We are travelling to London for a few days, staying in Waterloo. We will be driving in on the Monday, parking in a secure car park and won't be driving again until we leave on the Thursday. I'm assuming we only need to pay the congestion charge for the two days we will physically driving our car in London (arriving and departing)?

Yes, two days charge if you travel between 7am and 10pm

the congestion charge was introduced by Livingstone - he said he would do it and Londoners thought it was such a good idea they elected him. You don't like it, walk or stay out of London.

Other cities have clean air charges, too - nothing to do with Khan. Four cities in Scotland, eight in England. I'm sure more will follow suit

But it is Khan who is choosing to massively expand it - read the link I posted. It's going to ruin people trying to run businesses who can't afford to upgrade their vehicle.

Yes, there's a couple of museums I want to visit, the RAF Museum at Hendon and the Brooklands museum, both of which will be in the new ULEZ zone so, if I don't manage to get there before August in my faithful old diesel, they'll not get visited by me.

All councils are anti car, no matter what the consequences to local businesses. They don't care as long as they can flaunt their eco credentials.

Bhg the Hendon museum is fantastic & well worth the visit. My son's loved going there when they were younger.I hope you manage a visit.

the congestion charge zone isn't expanding. ULEZ is different. It was introduced by Khan but had been arranged by Boris before that.

The ULEZ might be the reason IKEA closed the Edmonton branch, which is just south of the North Circular.

the RAF museum's 10 minutes on a bus from the tube station. Out of towners have long forgotten about buses, but London has kept them.

Sharon - yes, I've been before back in 2004 but I'd like to get another visit in before ULEZ. The RAF Museum at Cosford is even better, tell your sons - all three V bombers there and a lightning hanging vertically from the ceiling.

could be, Hopkirk, the Wembley Ikea - 6 inches north of the North Circular - is still going. We'll see if that closes too once the ULEZ is expanded. They're opening one in Oxford St later in the year, though private traffic isn't allowed there.

jno - to get to the museum by public transport I have to catch a bus into Reading, a train from there to Paddington and then mess around on the tube and buses. By the time I get there it will be time to set off back home as well as costing me an arm and a leg in fares. Actually that's two arms and two legs as my wife will be with me. Compare that to an hour in the car and £5 to park.
