probably something like an Astra.
My parent's Avenger rusted to bits within about 4 years. Regularly wax polished but the sea air got to it.
I reckon a Skoda Flavia but I'm biased.
There is nothing akin to it.

Why barry
Akin today...bin wagon. They were dreadful.
Cars have power steering these days, don't rust and don't leak.
The only things any modern cars would have in common with that is a wheel at each corner and a steering wheel
Yes they were rust buckets back in the day like many cars were back then. The one good thing about it was that they did it in a colour similar to rust.

I loved it for the leather seats and comfortablity I guess for that era
Regarding rust, I saw an interesting sight way back in the 70s when I lived in Swindon where Pressed Steel Fisher had a plant which turned out car shells in raw steel. These were then shipped out to places like Oxford where car manufactures were based.

Owing to strike action, bodies were stored in the PSF site for some time (out in all weathers of course). So when things got moving again, instead of seeing loads of shiny bodies heading out, we were treated to the sight of very brown (rust) bodies instead. Presumably they would be treated at car manufacturers before painting (but I wouldn't bet on it). I often wondered how owners with those cars fared rust-wise.

[Footnote: I can't remember whether the strikes were at PSF or car manufacturers, I think it was the latter]
Don't think the Avenger would ever have had leather seats...it was all vinyl "leather-look" in those days. They got seriously hot in Summer.
I think in those days if you wanted leather seats it had to be a Roller
We used to have a Cortina back in the day.
As I am only small, I felt like I was driving a Cadillac.
