Maybe one that doesn't relate to a fault or no fault at all.

Thanks Dougie but I don't know what that means.  But then I'm a laydee

I have 2 spurious (permanent) OBD fault codes on my car, showing on the vehicle display as an engine fault and a brake warning.  The garage advises that they are not genuine, but once cleared they return within a few days – if I want it fixed I’d need to pay at least £1,000 for a replacement ECU.

I had a wee light on my last car permanent and I was told that MOT wouldn't pass it and I got it fixed

Believe it or not, the brake warning is not an MOT failure, but the engine fault is – so I have to clear the fault before having the MOT done.
