I don't have a Focus but I went to my local garage that I use for everything else regarding the car.

I`m not sure Halfords/Kwickfit change cam belts.  It costs upwards of £500 (they change the water pump at the same time)

A Ford dealer should give you a price for doing it which you can compare with a local garage. Bear in mind that a broken cam belt will effectively write-off your car so it's important for you to have confidence in the garage you choose.

I had a cam belt fail years ago on one of my first cars.  I knew there was a weakness with them and that when it fails it knackers the valves in the engine. So when the engine died I knew what it was.  Luckily the previous owner had extended the warrenty on the car I didn't have to pay. In March I got the cam belt replaced on my car - the belt cost £71.49, water pump £58.83, alt belt £20.45.  I had a couple of other parts replaced.  Labour was £264 plus and MOT (vat exempt)  Total bill was £577.39

That's alright - your're welcome

Thanks both

Given the value of a 2010 Focus, you have to weigh the cost of replacing the belt versus the value of the car.

I would definitely say that it is not worth spending £500 on such a job for the car.

If you have owned the car for many years and have not thrashed it, there is every chance that the belt will last a lot longer than the recommended change interval.

The last vehicle I owned with a cambelt was a Ford Mondeo.

It had a recommended change at 80k miles or 5 years, whichever came first.

I purchased the car at 6 month old, and never rev’ed the engine past 4,000 revs.

I never had the cambelt changed, selling it at 80k miles 11 years old.

For that type ofjob, find yourself a local independent garage.
