I'm looking to sell my 17 yo car.  When I got a quote from webuyanycar online they quoted £600, but when I took the car to them in person, they said £300.  Why the half price knock down?

Yesterday's quotes for my 17 year old 11000mileage hatchback (less then 1000 miles a year) one owner(me)

webuyanycar £3063  (subject to viewing and short test drive )

motorway.co.uk.  "UP TO £2022"   [  note the words UP TO  : haha

scrap ( via the link kindly supplied by Barry : £145)

motorway.co.uk needs 16 photos interior, exterior, upholstery, dashboard, wheels, tyres, chips, scratches and scrapes .

Surely the extremely  low mileage and perfect engine should be more important !

I won't bother with any

it is called "bait and change" - usually for selling

clementino - i thought you were saying 110,000 miles was extremely low mileage (till i put my glasses on!)

Peter, yes I agree, so I have a couple of contacts who know the true worth ...I may donate to a youngster learning to drive or a charity of some sort.

bednobs.   😅 😅

But I got exactly what they quoted online, they do try to find faults, couldn't find any on mine. Obviously you don't have to accept their offer.

Ultra-low mileage isn't necessarily a plus for an older car.

Autotrader  :said they cannot value my car as it is over 15 years old.

Many years ago I used to buy Autocar magazine which was brilliant for values etc

I think I got what they offered on mine - they tried to knock a bit off but added it back for the matching spare wheel which was non-standard.

This latest email from motorway.com is probably another tactic ?

"" You recently valued your car with us when we unfortunately had a technical issue. The price that we gave you was lower than expected, and inaccurate.

We’ve resolved the issue, and your valuation is higher See details, click here......""

and did it fit with your expectations?

Shop around for a minimum trade in you still see them occasionally

bednobs.  The new wording has been changed from "UP TO " to "estimated value " and is £243 higher. But when/ if they see the exterior photos they will definitely lower the price anyway and no doubt, if/when  the dealer arrives, they will probably find  more reasons to reduce the offer !

I asked Park Cameras for an exchange price on a camera which I claimed was in very good condition; they will give you a price via email which is, obviously, subject to change when they actually see it. The price they offfered me was satisfactory so I took it to them with a printed copy of their quote. When he saw it the man said it was actually in excellent condition and gave me about £50 more for it than the estimate.

"Surely the extremely  low mileag e and perfect engine should be more important !" - no, the other things are much more imortant especially interor damage and paintwork. Those are the things that help or prevent it selling. The engine is importanant but as long as there are no obvious issues and it goes it won't prevent a resale the other things will.

15:08 just find the same age make an model on ebay that's a useful guide.

An engine which has only done 11,000 miles in 17 years isn't necessarily in perfect condition. You still need an oil change every year whatever mileage has been covered and lots of cold starts and short trips is not good either. Some things suffer with time, not miles; rubber bushes, tyres etc.

In the 60s and 70s, most important bit was the bodywork not the mechanicals, they were easier to repair or replace.

I understand about the low mileage after all your comments. It. has had an every annual service, health check, new tyres, and all necessary new parts , but I admit there are exterior. scrapes and dents (some, but not all my fault ) Interior is as new

A 2008 model with high mileage and good exterior is estimated £1000 on auto car

Just for info, I sold my 14 year old car to Motorway, which operates a bidding system from a few hundred dealers. I got twice the price offered by WBAC.
