When driving the dashboard mounted airbag indicator light of my 1999 T reg Peugeot 106 initially flashed for 5 minutes before becoming permantly illuminated. I cannot see any reason for this and am worried that the airbag within the steering wheel is about to explode. Does anyone have any solutions.

It may be flashing a fault code which repeats several times and then stays on permantly until the car is switched off. For example: 3 flashes followed by 2 further flashes. then repeats until it stays permantly lit. On Fords (USA) the code 32 would mean a fault with safing sonsor. I think you need it checked out by a dealer.
If the car has seatbelt pre-tensioners this is often the problem, the cables run under the front seats and often get damaged, knocked loose or whatever, check out any cables/connectors under the front seats which go anywhere on the seat belts.

Thank you both for your answers, I have had the test and find the fault lies within the seatbelt housing, repair is scheduled for tomorrow with an estimated cost of two hours for the auto electrician
