Can you think of one quintessentially British thing that no immigrant to the country would either feel for or understand ?

For me it might be hearing children in the distance singing, "All things bright and beautiful."

Ahh! what an old softie I am. 😢

I once knew a person quite well, he was a doctor & had been born, brought up & educated in Egypt practicing in England since he was 30 - still is.

In conversation, I once mentioned something about Spike Milligan & he looked puzzled, I said you know who I mean - Spike Milligan ? & he didn't have clue who I was talking about & at that moment I realised, that though we could be friends, what a large cultural gap there was between us.

Since then I've always thought of Spike as a sort of litmus test.

Calling ourselves Great Britain, not just Britain - or has that long since gone?

In my experience, dwile flonking in not known outside East Anglia.

20:27 usual ignorance from the 5C. "great" means as opposed to little/inner as in greater London. It does not mean great as in wonderful but I would not expect a fifth columnists like you to know that.

Wow! I'd love to know how you classify me as a 5C, TTT. Is it because I spend 99% of my time in crosswords?

And, I do know the terminology, doesn't stop me from being proud enough to call us Great Britain.

Just don't jump to inane conclusions please.
