Rover 220 coupe - ABS light

My abs light has been on since i got the car, it doesnt have wear sensors fitted but has the lock up sensors on the wheels which all seem to be intact and clean, the fuse is ok, what else could be the problem ? and is this an mot fail ?.

Its probably one of the wheel sensors has become inoperable, being intact and clean isn't a good indication of their serviceability. The control unit probably needs resetting too.

We had a rover that did this, turned out it was something to do with the alternator, once this was replaced the light went off
