Diesel car left standing

Hi everyone, hope you can help - I posted a qu. earlier about what I would need to do to start a car that has been left standing for 6 months. I had some really good replies, but forgot to say that the car is a diesel (L reg 1.8 Orion) and has been outside for all this time. By the time I posted on the thread, it had been lost among the new questions! One of the hints I was given was to remove the HT leads so the rngine can turn without starting, to make sure engine is well oiled. I know diesels have glow plugs not spark plugs and I don't know if the same applies! I know a bit about cars, not loads, so if you post a reply please be basic for me! Thanks for any help (PS am currently charging battery, know how to do that!)

Well sasha as its a diesel you can forget most of the info we gave in the first question. The diesel fuel in the tank will not be effected by the standing time, I suggest that you remove the air filter and check it out and maybe fit a new one as if it was dirty when the car was stopped by now it will have absorbed moisture and may be blocked, for now you could just leave it out if it is very dirty.
I would then just put the battery on and try to start it, .If/when it starts don't rev it up even if it slows down and stops just restart it, let it run slow until the oil light goes out.
If you have trouble getting it to start maybe you will have to get some Holts ''easystart'' spray and put some down the air intake to assist the first starting. Don't use ''easystart'' on a regular basis to start a worn out engine you just kill it off quicker.

I'd be inclined to just turn it over before the glow plugs warm up to give it time so that the engine oil can circulate. Once the oil light has been out for say ten seconds stop and start again as normal if it hasn't already. If the engine is in good condition then easystart isn't needed and can and has caused conrods to bend.
