i bought a 03 plate 1.6 focus ghia from a dealer and have owned it for near on 10 weeks. in this time i have had the car a total of 2 weeks as it been in ford garage for 8 weeks with serious engine management probs. the retail garage has kept me on the road for this period and now have agreed to take the car off my hands and replace it with another. i have searched their stock list and come up with a 54 plate new shape 1.6 zetec. as there is a price difference between the 2 cars of about 1-1.5k i was told if i wanted that car it would cost me 900. this would stop any probs with tearing up contracts of finance and just carry on as normal but with a different car. i know they aint just gonna say ok we'll swap it for your hassle, but do you think in the way of compensation meeting them half way would be beneficial?

You've got nothing to loose by suggesting it, particularly if they have their eye on the long game and hope to keep you as a customer in years to come.
Frankly I am amazed they have agreed to swap the car, normally dealer rules 1,2, 3 and 4 are never exchange the car! Try and knock them down if you can but don't miss the opportunity to get shot of this lemon for a couple of hundred quid.
