Remote central locking

I have a 1998 fiesta and the remote central locking wasnt working, i changed the batteries, nothing happened, so i took to an auto electrics place who said it would need reprogramming as the key was actually sending out a signal, after they reprogrammed it only worked when i got next to the car but i didnt bother too much, at least it was working...now 4 weeks later it has stopped working completely again, have been booked back in for tuesday, still being told the key is sending a signal but i dont want them to try and rip me off...any ideas on the problem??

P.s. - It says mondeo but it worked on my sister's 1999 fiesta and probably will on most fords.
