why does my cooling fan stay on on my mondeo v6

Try a new fan sender unit. there might be a fault they work it out so if there is one it stays on rather than staying off and overheating.

Please let us know the out come.

do you mean it stays on after ignition is turned off? if so and it eventually does turn off ,this what it is supposed to do . no problem

Hi. Electric Viscous fans on most vehicles are still able to come on after the vehicle has been switched off - this is quite normal. Connected to a thermostat switch, so it still tries to reduce the temperature of the water that is in the system.

Need to explain in full.

What seems to happen is that the fan is on whilst normal driving ,whereas it should only cut-in when the car is in traffic ,or when the a/c is on.

Any idea what MPG this car should return under normal driving conditions ?.

the fan should not come on under normal driving. it may be a faulty thermostatic switch! if you have a multimeter or similar tester check switch at normal running temp, if it is short circuit, suggest you change switch.
