Are these sold with a practical purpose in mind?

People would place them in the back window, hoping that the paramedics would attend to them (and presumably their child) first. Very little people take note of them nowadays though, as people leave them in the car, regardless of whether or not the child is present.
Saw the best one yet the other day - a pink, girlie sticker saying "Little Princess On Board " can you believe it - oh - we'll all give it a wide birth and pride of place because it carries a little madam !! I've raised three little girls so you could say I love kids but lets get some sense back into this business - babies yes - princesses - I should cocoa!!!
Your slightly wrong BOYWONDER
They originated in Germany where there was a serious accident, a couple in the car were unconcious in the car and were taken to hospital and a baby in the car was not discovered until a while later.
Just think what would happen now if the same thing happened and there was a baby sticker on the car but no baby in the car, Firemen or police could be killed searching for a non exsistant baby if the car exploded into flames!
These stickers should be banned!
As Dudley says anyone stupid enough to buy them is a nuptey
i can understand the reason about finding a baby in the back but i think nowadays they are widely regarded as being used for telling the motorist behind you that you have a baby aboard and to please keep a distance. because most people do not take it out when they do not have a baby aboard it is more likely to be ignored anyway. a good idea that has now become pretty much wasted.
