For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.if connecting a second battery use a relay to separate the second(auxilary ) battery from the first. i you then run your amp and other sound system bits through this aux battery and not the car battery. when you flatten the aux battery the car one is still ok to start and run the car. make sure the aux battery is a 'leisure' one that is designed to be run to flat then it will last for ages. normal car batteries are not meant to be flatted to often and doing it to often kills them. look in a camping & caravan mag for leisure batteries. i did it for my camper van and even if i left interior lights on all night the van battery was unaffected.
hope this helps
If you are going to add an additional battery, you need to consider the charging system. I.e. is the alternator up to the job of charging both batteries.
As markja says, a relay will help split both the load and potentially (no pun intended) the charging circuit. Good advice re. a leisure battery too.
Hi, you do not need a second battery. The output from the cars alternator when the vehicle is running should handle your ICE system without any trouble at all.Its all about how much current your system draws. It is very very unlikely that all the current (amps) being drawn and that includes all the cars own requiremnts + your IEC system could not be managed by the alternator. Now if on the other hand you are stationary and you then draw lots of current over a long period you will eventually flatten the battery.Split charging is not the answer unless you are parked up for hours running your system.I suggest you have your battery/alternator checked. If the battery is dodgy it is a good idea to replace this with one of a higher amphour rating
