I agree with Sugar Ray, and I own a BMW. The 1 Series is only marginally better than the BMW Mini.

if you are set on a 1 series, you'd be foolish not to go for the 120d in metallic. However that's a really expensive car, and has few toys at the standard price. It's also tiny in the back, so pointless if you ever intend to transport adults. The 320d is much bigger and much, much better for very little more.
As others have rightly pointed out, a top spec golf or Audi will be better value and better spec'd, if you can stand not having a BMW.
