help renault laguna

ive got a 1996 renault lagune 1.8 rt. when i tried to start it the orange serv light flashed rapidly accompanied with a tapping noise at the front off side of the car but the car refused to start does anywone have any ideas? i am desperate as i rely heavily on the car
