Lorry laws???

I work for a haulage company. One of our skip lorries was parked at the side of the road when an approaching lorry collided with the wing mirror destroying the entire unit. The other driver said the incident was as much our fault because our wing mirror was not folded in.

Is it law that when parked at the side of the road our drivers must fold there wing mirrors in?

If you collide with a stationary vehicle you are liable to pay for the damage to that vehicle. This applies even if the vehicle is illegally parked. It is every driver�s obligation to avoid colliding with things (and to this end must drive so that he can stop within the distance he can see to be free of obstruction). You cannot claim that you were justified in colliding with a vehicle simply because it should not have been there. The same principle applies here. Whether the mirror was folded or not is immaterial. The other driver is incorrect and, dare I say it, may be �trying it on�.

Well good for you - I may be many things - but I certainly aint a snob. It is just that I find it funny that a skip lorry was hit. In my experience these are some of the worst most careless drivers on the road - and I know of so many instances of peoples cars and property being damaged by skips and skip lorries - usually with the lorry just driving away afterwards.

Some of us try to take our own stuff down the dump - as and when we need to rather than save it up for the skip man.
