Probably yes but you will have to put it back when you go for the MOT test

i thought any vehicle that has a cat fitted as standard, would have to be re-tuned or chipped to run without the cat. something to do with the back pressure and gas flow through the cat.

Yes your right funky but on an older low powered car like this I don't think it would need the tuning.
