When you disconnect the odometer you also disconnect the speedometer so you want to drive around all weekend not knowing what speed you are driving at! This confirms my opinion of vandrivers. I also assume it is white so you probably couldn't care less anyway!!!
If it is a relatively new vehicle you may immobilise the engine in the process

LATECOMER, as a Fleet Manager it peeves me to hear that. As far as I know It is not possible to do, so dont try it. If found out you would be sacked and face going to court

I will now take off my Fleet Manager hat and give you my non-work related opinion....Use your own motor or get a bus you p-taking ****!

Just ask the boss if you can use it. That way no one gets upset and you stay within the law!

Thank you all for your answers. let me explain, i made a mistake by saying weekendS this was going to be a one off. i offered to to pay my firm for any fuel used and told them that i needed the van because i had told a recently disabled friend that i would remove his bath and install a shower cubicle ( for free!!! ) i was amazed to be told that there could be no exceptions to the rule. Spaced i would like to see you get a shower tray, cubicle and all other bits and pieces in your car or on a bus!!!!! scotstone Funnily enough my van IS white. londontown, i have spoken to a mechanic and he agrees with you ( good advice, thanks) Spaced you are a tad santimonious and need to lighten up man.

I'm with spaced,
It's not far removed from theft, the company has rules, and as an employee you should stick to them.
While it may seem petty not to let you use it, just for 1 weekend, what's to stop someone else saying "Well, he used it for the weekend, why can't I", and before you know it, everyone will want to use a van for the weekend.
Personally I wouldn't take the chance, and hire a van for the day.

UsandStuff. The milk of human kindness runs dry!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you were involved in an accident then you might find yourself prosecuted for driving without insurance or even TWOC.

Try to squeeze the delivery in during the day!

insurance and t.w.o.c. comes to mind.... for the sake of a couple of saving, you risk a spell at her majestys pleasure.

Thanks to all who replied. Problem has been resolved by another white van man coming to my aid. Almost restores my faith in human nature!!!!!!!!
what sort of answers did you expect, when you present your question in a way that sounds like your'e up to something. Whether your picking up a mate or a shower cubicle, you shouldnt use the work van. end of. Ask your boss, he can say yes or no. Disconecting the odometer shows that you know that you are doing wrong. You work vehicle is a tool for your job, not your spare time or weekdns.
I'm shocked, TWO white van men with some decency??? ;-)

Spaced, UsandStuff.I worked for a small firm recently taken over by a much larger firm, and it really all boils down to not liked being told not to use a works vehicle at weekends by someone who does.Double standards stink!!! I didn't make myself clear. I do see your point, and i hate breaking the law but i was mega cheesed off.But alls well that ends well. Farewell. ( for now!! )
I do not see the point in taking a vehicle home at weekend or over night if you can't use it for "personal use". Why should you have it parked on your drive or outside your house, or even worse, parked outside my house.
At weekends, our estate looks like an extention of the local Ford dealers forecourt, with Transit's (and other fine makes of commercial vehicles) taking up every spare inch of road. It looks like a form of advertising with anything from double glazing to office plants........
