Sounds more like a sticking throttle/accelerator pedal. First thing to try is to check the pedal and oil/free up if its sticking.

is it a rover by any chance?

Is it a vauxhall by any chance?

its a ford ka the engine starts to race as i come to a full stop as i pree the clutch and accelarator at the same time
Hi I had a Ford ka a few years back that did this. I was told the road speed valve had gone and that it was going to be costly as they would have to reset the computer. I'd had problems with a dealership garage before and had reported them to trading standards, so I went back to them to try and catch them out, they told me this and asked did i want to pay to have it fixed. i told them i'd have to wait and when they gave me the car back it was working fine. I can only assume it was a loose valve and that when they put the car back together they tightened it back up. Can't remember which valve caused it but just beware. It could be something serious but may also be just a loose valve!!!!!
