I got a ticket whilst parked in a residents bay in Newington Green, which I do not have a badge for.

Ok a bit dumb but I parked after midnight and left my pals a about 3am. The ticket was issued at 1.30am.

I thought you could park in a residents bay so long as it was after 6.30.

It depends. There should be a plate at the side of the road telling you the times of the restrictions. Still seems harsh, what jobsworth is patrolling the streets in the middle of the night?

It could well have been a jobsworth employed by the local authority who issues residents permits for the area (presumably the London Borough of Hackney). He may well have been told to go there in response to complaints the said authority may well have received. These may well have been from the residents who have paid extortionate sums of money simply to be allowed to park somewhere near to where they live.

Some people who live in the Newington Green area may well have returned home from visiting their pals at 3am only to find the parking spaces, for which they have paid handsome sums, occupied by people who have paid nothing.

It is well known that these authorities sell far more permits than there are parking spaces. The very idea of them is to give the residents a bit of a chance to park near their house when they are at home (most usually at night). To allow free access after 6.30pm would therefore make no sense.

ok cheers.

No wonder they need stap proof jacekets and the amount of assults on traffic wardens has risen.

It is a sad reflection of our society that people have to wear body armour and be subjected to verbal and physical assault, just because someone doesn't like waht they do.

check the parking resrictions plate/sign that must be displayed. then you will know if you commited an offence or not.

don't get a ticket while checking the plate though!!!
