I am looking to buy a defender & have been told to go for the TDI and not the TD5 - can any one advise any further

I drive a TD5 at work ,I have to say that it is fine performance wise on the highway but not so good off road as you have to go right down the box for it to respond at slow speeds.got to say that they are reliable and hard working vehicles and I dont remember having much trouble with either as long as you keep up with servicing (expensive) maintain them.
