Help. I bought my new car tax disc at the end of March (and I've got the receipt to prove it), but I simply forgot to replace it on the windscreen.

I've just found an official warning notice on my car (I guess from a police officer?) reminding me the disc is out of date and saying the details will be sent to the DVLA. I've immediately put the new disc in place......what's likely to happen? I'm really upset at my stupidity.

It is an offence not to display it even if you have it, but it sounds like you have been given a friendly warning. Hopefully they'll just check the DVLA records and see that you've paid your tax and leave you alone.
