what do the numbers on the back of a mercedes mean? if anything at all, like with bmw its the series followed by engine size is it anything similar with mercedes? cheers
I think its like the model number...like on Volvo's and all that. I know they have that funny "class" thingy..like an A class and all that but i think it's to show the differences in that class. I might be wrong...normaly am ;-)
They're similar, yes, but both also relate to spec levels (to some extent) as well as engine size. A BMW 323 ans 325 both have a 2.5 litre engine, a 328 and 330 both have a 3.0 litre engine. A Mercedes C200 has a 1.8 litre engine.
PS. to above SAABs just have model numbers that run in a sequence one of their models is the SAAB 90 but as they also make fighter aircraft the model say, 91 could be a fighter aircraft.
historically 95% of mercs used to follow strict patterns 200 =2.0litre , 420 = 4.2 litre, in the current line up it is the reverse as the numbers do not match the engine size at all 350 =3.7litre 600 =5.5 , 240 =2.6
I think Mercedes have the largest range of cars of any carmaker.
As i understand it the C class is Comfort, the E Class is Elegance and the S Class is Superior.
But within that they have a bewildering array of L's and K's and LK's.
The top of the range must be the SL55 but the S500 is pretty special aswell and i dont see why a SL55 is better than a S500 - sure, its got an extra L but 445 less numbers.
I think they just make it up half the time!
As a rule of thumb the higher up the alphabet and the bigger the number the more expensive it is likely to be!
